It is with very deep sorrow that I inform Muslims in Malaysia and abroad of the passing away of the selfless, caring scholar and ascetic Shaikh Mohammed Toyyib al-Kedahi al-Makki (ra).
He was born around 1918 and passed away on Friday 30 December 2016 aged over 100 according to the lunar calendar.
Despite living a very humble life in Kedah over the past few decades after returning from Makkah, Allah so decreed that his soul be taken upon his short return to the Holiest City of Makkah in al-Hejaz. This perhaps a sign of the closeness the honourable Shaikh enjoys with Allah.
Shaikh Toyyib started his journey on the sacred path by travelling on ship from Malaysia to study at the Holy City of Makkah over 70 yrs ago and sat at the feet of the great scholars of the day, such as Shaikh Abdul Qadir al-Mendeeli, al-Shaikh al-Muhaddith Hassan Mashaat, al-Shaikh al-Nahwi Mohammed Arabi al-Tabani, The greatest musnid of his times Mohammed Yasin al-Fadani and other senior Ulama of that era.
I was extremely fortunate to make his acquaintance over a year and half ago and would often visit him to remain in the company of the righteous and earn his heartfelt supplications.
We pray that Allah elevate his status, expand his grave, and bless him with entrance into the highest gardens in paradise without reckoning.
An account of my first journey to visit him follows here:
